Friedrich Hayek contrasts two versions of equality: the idea of “careers open to talents” (no legal barriers preventing people from being hired for jobs they are qualified for), and the idea that “all must be assured an equal start and the same prospects.” Hayek argues that the former idea of equality is superior.
