For this essay, you will pick a recent article to analyze, one that was written within the past six months. The writer of the article should take a position on a topic and make an argument to support the position (in other words, the article should do more than just provide information; it should take a position on that topic—you may, if you so choose, use an article that you found doing research for Essay #1). Analyze and evaluate the article by doing the following: Part 1) Write a reflective reading response that identifies your feelings and thoughts as you read the article (your gut reaction). What are questions or concerns you have regarding the article? Part 2) Create a judgment about the way the author created the argument; this is your thesis/position/claim (you might agree with the position but decide that the author did not do a good job of writing the argument, or vice versa.) Support your claim with examples from the article. Why and how did the author do a good or bad job of writing the argument? Here is the place to point out logical fallacies, if there are any, or logic used well. Part 3) If you were writing an argument about the topic, what would you do differently, if anything?
