Each student will complete a ten-page paper on a global issue of their choosing. The paper will provide information on the issue using an international studies approach and conclude with suggestions for actions to best address the issue. Please follow the specific format, content instructions Be a minimum of 10 pages in length Use Times New Roman Font, 12 point font Be Double spaced Have 1 inch margins Have Numbered pages Cite Sources in APA format Paper Format Guidelines Cover Page: Provide a one page cover page for your research paper that includes the paper title, course number/title, date and author (The cover page is not part of the 10-page minimum limit) Introduction: Provide a one page introduction that offers an overview of the entire research paper. In this introduction you should note your global issue topic and why it is important, how each of the five disciplines (Political Science, Economics, Anthropology, Geography and History) inform your understanding of the issue. International Studies Analysis: The body of your research paper will be applying the framework from Chapter 20 of our textbook. Please use the numbered points below as sub-headers for your paper. This section should be a minimum of 8 pages in length. Global Issue (Name your global issue. Example: “Invasive Species”) Identify the issue, describe what it entails and why it is a ‘global’ issue Identify the stakeholders; explain the risk and rewards each of them face; the power relations among them; and the wider context in which the issue is embedded Global Issue History Describe history of the issue (especially of solutions tried) Analyze why some attempts to address the issue have worked or failed Identify broader trends in solutions and failures. What seems to be the most productive or least productive measures for addressing the issue? Global Issue Recommendations Define a clear goal for solution (include criteria used for choosing the solution); Specify a course of action (include both an Institutional and Innovative solution – see pages 446-454 in the textbook. Examples of Institutional solutions include: new regulations, education, dialogues, treaties, agencies, etc. Examples of Innovative solutions include: Leveraging inequalities, Fair trade practices, micro-grants, etc.)
