Manager Interview Preparation Review the following information regarding the interview that you will conduct with a manager in healthcare. Once you have selected and set up your interview, post on who you will be interviewing, why, and where you plan to do your interview. Your response posts should include constructive advice for your classmates. Interview Preparation: Conducting an interview requires time, permission, and an effective way to record the interview. Get everything you need and practice a 5-minute interview with a friend before your scheduled interview. Ask for 30 minutes of time to interview and ask if there is a good time to have this where they would not be regularly interrupted? Ask if it would be acceptable to use your smart phone, or tape recorder, or would they feel more comfortable just with note taking? Have your questions on separate pages or two to a page if you need to take notes. Conversations may wander, so be prepared to bring it back on track with a question like, “can you tell me a little bit more about….” If your time is up, and you are not finished, ask if it is acceptable to finish your questions and do they have the time? Interview a managerial-level person in a healthcare organization. Ask the manager the questions below, along with other questions you have prepared in advance, about their role related to financial management. What financial functions are carried out by you as a manager? What kind of training did you receive to perform these functions? Was it pre, during, or post this position? In your opinion, what training has been the most valuable? Are you involved in the relationship between budget requirements and ensuring high performance outcomes for your department? Ask about negative and positive relationships. What is the most challenging aspect of your position and where does financial management fit on that list? What is the most rewarding aspect of your position and where does financial management fit on that list? Are you involved in any strategies to address waste, lean, inventory, revenue cycles, etc.?
