Week 2: Narrative Essay Assignment Directions Introduction to the Narrative: For this essay we are going to think about what “home” and “identity” means. “Home” and “identity” as you have read in Didion, Greenwood, and Iyer can be interpreted as many different things. Didion’s essay made us think about how home and identity is sometimes not defined by a place, but rather a people. Greenwood on the other hand, shows us how something as simple as comfort food can shape our memories and definitions of home and thus create an identity. And finally, Iyer alludes to a home of memory entwined with belonging. These essays are all narratives that tell the reader different stories, yet with the all-important “I” voice. I want you to use this voice (your voice) to tell me (your reader) your story. Prompt: What is home and how does it connect to your identity? This can be a place, person, an experience or whatever makes you feel at home.
