For this conversation, please make sure you have read Chapter 11 and Chapter 12 in our e-textbook and watch the relevant video clips. I see this Online Discussion following three different tracks, one for racism/race relations, one for sexism/gender stratification, and one for heterosexism/LGBT movement. Select the one that most appeals to you. Here are the respective writing prompts: What do you see as the most important issues and challenges facing U.S. society, with regards to racism and race relations? Given the persistence of patriarchy in the United States despite some important progress made by the women′s movement, what do you see as the keys to closing the pay gap and other forms of gender stratification standing in the way of a gender-neutral egalitarian society? The LGBT movement has made significant gains in their struggle against heterosexism. What future do you see for the movement and its ongoing efforts to create a more egalitarian society for people of all sexual orientations. As always, keep in mind that we want to have a healthy discussion that reflects the academic and intellectual context of our course. However, it is also important to think through the issues and work toward articulating well-argued political viewpoints; that is the essence of democracy. It is okay to disagree and some disagreement is healthy. And we want our discussions to be respectful of others′ viewpoints.
