*USE THE SOURCES IN THE ANNOTATED BIB ATTACHED*This research and reflection will culminate in a 5 double-spaced page paper that you will submit in the last week of the semester. The paper not only analyzes the information behavior of your group, using models, theories and concepts from the course, but also applies this analysis to practice — suggesting how design of systems and services should take into consideration this group’s information behavior.
Brief descriiption of the group and a succinct just rich and thorough response to the following questions:
How is the information behavior of this group characterized? What does the research say about how they seek and use information?
How can we design better information systems and services for this group? How does your research and reflection influence your ideas about better professional practice?
This kind of analysis and application process is important in practice. You want to make research-based decisions and have theory information your practice. Far too often, information professionals make decisions based on tradition, assumptions, novelty, or simply to imitate other organizations. But this will not be you!
Detailed instructions:
1. Review the research you collected in Week 4 and any additional sources you’ve found to remind yourself about the existing research on your user group. Review the feedback on your Annotated Bibliography and make notes about next steps or things to check for before submitting final paper (Week 6).
2. Review the analysis you did in the Weeks 8 and 9 and think about how you might apply this to practice. How might professionals design or improve systems to aid this group’s information seeking or use? How might professionals design or improve services to aid this group’s information seeking or use? How about design or improvement of library or other information spaces? How about management or staffing of information organizations? You are welcome to focus your reflection on the kind of work you plan to do or the kind of organization in which you plan to work. However, please spend time reflecting on other areas, as well. Draft some text based on your reflection.
3. Revise your draft text into a well-organized, succinct, and thorough paper. You may want to organize it around the main questions I asked you to address. Or you may want to organize it around the 3 to 5 points you synthesized for your poster or video. You will need to revise your paper from the draft text into a clear and well written paper. You should also
confirm that you answered the questions I asked you to answer
look at your paper as if someone else had written it and sketch out your argument to confirm that it’s what you want to say
check your spelling and grammar
have a writing center tutor or a trusted friend proofread your paper (not fixing mistakes, but circling areas that you need to take a second look at)
check that your citations are perfect
review the rubric and self-assess your paper
