As for the research that is going to be proposed, you can find a summary below: Research Question: What are the impacts the recent waves of terrorism has had on policing and its organisation in Belgium? – how is safety dealt with (for the police and for the society) – new laws and measures that were taken since 2015. – how efficient is a cooperation between local policing/ European policing and international policing in dealing with terrorism (and local/international organisations such as NATO/ Europol/Interpol/ European Commission). – How is organised criminal investigations and their limitations in terms of terrorism? – How is organised detention of a terrorist in terms of his nationality, where the attack occurred (how is the criminal justice system organised in terms of terrorists). – how do anti-terrorist units deal with the emotional overload of victims, police officers and the terrorist (for example when there is a hostage situation like in the Bataclan). The Research will be QUALITATIVE. Methodology: Interviews of police officers/ anti-terrorist unit, NATO, and questionnaires for how draining it is emotionally for police officers and victims.
