I have prepared three datasets that you can choose from for your assignment. You are also free to choose a different dataset if you find one that you are interested in. 1 – World bank dataset This dataset contains 2 csv file. The IEG_World_Bank_Project_Performance_Ratings contains ratings for a number of World Bank projects (c. 12,000) and the WBproject_list contains basic information on about 20,000 world bank projects. The WorldBankProject_assignment.R file give you code to load the files in memory and merge them to keep only projects on which evaluation is available. The file also gives you links to information about the datasets on the World Bank website. This dataset can be used to address a number of questions, for example, what types of projects is the world bank leading? Where are they located? It can also be used to study how the world bank evaluate the projects that the bank runs. 2 – the World Values Survey This datasets allows you to study how values have changed around the world over time. The WVS_Time_Series_List_of_Variables_and_equivalences.xlsx give the list and description of all the variables. The worldvaluesurvey_assignment.R gives you some initial code to get started with the dataset. Note: the dataset is relatively complex, it might be a good idea to select a specific country to study in order to reduce complexity. The dataset can be used to study a number of question, for example, how values have changed over time, or how they vary across countries. 3 – the Global Entrepreneurship monitor The dataset CORRECTED_GEM 2015 NES NATIONAL LEVEL.sav summarises for each country surveyed the entrepreneurial conditions. The file GEM_assignment.R gives you some code to load the data and get started. It also contain links to the GEM website where you can find a wealth of information on the dataset and how to use it (along with all the other datasets collected by the GEM). The dataset can be used to study a number of questions related to entrepreneurship, for example, how countries vary in how welcoming they are to entrepreneurs.
