In this authentic assessment, you will connect to a threatened or endangered species in Florida and discover why it is being threatened and how it could be helped by creating a public service announcement.

Assignment Directions
Choose a threatened or endangered species in Florida (plant, animal, or invertebrate (except the Florida panther since an example is provided) and create a one to two-page visually attractive fact sheet that serves as a public service announcement on that species. A fact sheet is a document (printed or online) for homeowners that is often 8.5″ x 11″, so that it can be printed. This can be easily done in Word or it can be done in another program such as PowerPoint if the size is scaled to 8.5″ x 11″. See the attached PowerPoint example.

Include the following topics:

Description of the organism (include photos), may want to include items such as diet, population, nesting behavior for animals or sun/shade conditions, water requirements, and growing conditions for plants.
Counties in Florida where it can be found (can include a map) and habitat it is located (pine flatlands, coastal dunes, etc.)
Reasons why it is being threatened
Ways to help the population
The fact sheet should be in your own words and not copied and pasted from websites.
