Respond to at least two of your peers for this posting with suggestions that might work for them within their daily lives.1. Describe the Cognitive and Non-cognitive Abilities Relating to Emotional Intelligence. Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the capacity to recognize and manage the emotions of oneself and others and to use social awareness in problem-solving (Baack, 2017). A person’s level of EI is based on their Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and Emotional Quotient (EQ). A person’s IQ level is based on cognitive skills, how a person learns and memorizes. Conversely, EQ is based on noncognitive skills, how a person develops relationships, and interpersonal skills. EQs are often referred to as soft skills in business culture as they are inherent to each employee. These noncognitive behaviors are defined as Self-awareness, Self-revelation, Motivation, Empathy, and Social Skills. When aware of EI, employees often have higher performance ratings, collaborate better with teams, and seek constructive feedback. Within organizations, the EI of each employee will vary as no two employees are the same. However, employees with like personalities and shared values will migrate towards each other and have similar reactions to conflict and problem-solving. When working in diverse environments, having a high level of emotional intelligence will positively impact success as EI cultivates and nurtures empathy and understating of others. Being able to navigate and work through a difference of opinions indicates an ability to manage personal and external emotions. Provide an Example of EQ in Daily Life As a resource for my operation, understanding how EQ level impacts my behavior is critical. Daily interactions are varied in management level and diverse among demographics. Being self-aware and empathetic increases my ability to see the big picture and understand all sides of an issue. Additionally, when interacting with teams and new employees, using social skills is necessary for motivation. Teams need to feel comfortable and open to discussing and sharing opinions. Both EQ and EI allow me to keep an open mind and to listen without bias. 2. Describe the Cognitive and Non-Cognitive Abilities Relating to Emotional IntelligenceBaack (2017) states that “Emotional intelligence (EI) reflects a person’s ability to detect and manage emotional cues and information.” When it comes to non-cognitive skills, these focus on a person’s interactions with others and verbal or non- verbal communication skills. Non- cognitive skills reflect one’s Emotional Quotient level. With that, there are five dimensions of Emotional Intelligence which include the following: Self-awareness, self- management, self-motivation or persistence, empathy, and social skills (Baack, 2017). The cognitive skills reflect a person’s Intelligence Quotient level, meaning how one can think and apply reasoning. These different aspects of Emotional Intelligence are something we all grasp in different ways and can be taught and learned subconsciously.Provide an example of how you might use EQ in your daily life.
