CROSS CULTURAL COMMUNICATION Your Task – The Culture Map You are an international business specialist tasked with researching evaluating a company (Hong Kong Airlines) in relation to Erin Meyer’s Culture Map Framework. (https://erinmeyer.com) whose work focuses on how the world’s most successful managers navigate the complexities of cultural differences in a global environment. The Culture Map takes eight different elements of culture within an international business context and maps a country, a group, an organisation against these elements. Example below in relation to the eight elements of Communicating, Evaluating, Leading, Deciding, Trusting, Disagreeing, Scheduling and Persuading. As organisations develop their own cultural identity that is strongly influenced by the organic development of the organisation and its heritage, its industry, its environment, and its human capital, you are tasked with evaluating an organisation (Hong Kong Airlines) against this framework and then comparing and contrasting your evaluation with those of another Airline (in this case Ryanair, who are headquartered in Ireland). Set out recommendations of steps to take to facilitate communication between the parties, paying particular attention to elements where the organisations differ in mapping. Provide accurate and detailed definitions and explanations – good use of authority. Detailed analysis and evaluation where required. Relevant and coherent arguments and conclusions. 2. Identify and evaluate how the key elements that differentiate cultures impact your airline 3. Evaluate the challenges facing your airline in cross cultural communication.4. Critically assess techniques for cross-cultural conflict resolution through effective negotiation skills in your airline. 5. Analyse ethical issues facing business negotiations in your airline.6. Critically appraise the impact of power and conflict in the relationship landscape and assess the reasons for the termination of relationships in your airline (250-300 words) 7. Compare to a map from another airline (See comparison map below for Ryanair), drawing comparisons and paying attention to elements of the Culture Map that differ and how any inter-party communications could face challenges.
