. Read these directions carefully and follow all guidelines in writing your essay. Make sure to only write on one of the two cases linked below. Both cases are related to the content of Chapter 6 on Consumers. This essay is similar to the first one, the only difference being that you must apply two theories this time – one ethical theory and one justice theory to support your argument, namely, libertarianism or Rawls, along with any one of the major ethical theory options namely, virtue theory, deontology, act utility, or rule utility. Formal Guidelines 1. Start the essay with a succinct one paragraph summary outlining the key points of the case and the two theories you plan to apply in analyzing it, namely, how exactly they define the Good. 2. Then apply your chosen ethical theory to the case, explaining how the theory.would articulate what is ethically troubling here. 3. Then apply your chosen justice theory to the case, explaining how the theory would articulate what is unjust here. 4. Finally, conclude with a succinct final paragraph discussing how the company should act going forward. Be specific! • Remember to always support your claims with evidence and/or logic and always be as specific, practical and realistic as possible. • Style wise, avoid asking rhetorical questions. As a rule, you should never ask the reader questions in college papers. • Always use clear and succinct language and try not to pack too many ideas into a single sentence or paragraph. • Avoid very long sentences and short choppy sentences with no connection to one another. • There should always be some connection linking each sentence to the next and each paragraph to the next, thereby building toward completed thoughts. • Paragraphs should be at least 4-5 sentences long. • Always use active instead of passive style. • Use grammar checking as well as spell checking. • There are further general guidelines here () and do visit the campus writing center in the library before turning your final draft – especially if I recommended that after your first essay – for help with grammar, style, and/or structure. • Papers should be roughly 500-700 words (2-3 pages), double spaced in 12 point Times New Roman font, Late papers shall incur a 5-point penalty per day, unless you need to an extra day or two to get it proofed at the writing center, in which case, just let me know ahead of time. A formal bibliography is not required although any direct quotes should be referenced by author, publication and page number in parentheses at the end of the line. Try to have a good time with this.
