the online book can be found on vitalsource.com username: aileenganzz@csu.fullerton.edu password: Biancaganzz2001. The assignment includes four categories that you will address to learn more about the primary source. Summary of primary source (~ 1 page). Include a summary of the primary source document. You should provide generalized information for the summary, but you should also include enough specific references to the document to show that you have read it. You should reference information from the beginning, middle, and end of the primary source to show you read the whole document. If you include quotations, you should use a footnote referencing the document. Shorter documents may be less than one page, but should not be less than 1/2 page. Author biography and bias (~1/2 page to 3/4 page, depending on details available about the life of the person). You must include information about the biography AND the bias of the author. Many students only include the biography. The author is indicated on each primary source. You may find information in the document, but you will also need to do research outside of the document to answer this section. Some biographical information may be in the document, but will likely have to do some outside research. I prefer than you not use Wikipedia or online encyclopedias, if other sources are available. For the author’s biographical information, you might include: the author’s background, education, family, philosophy, employment, career, etc. You will need footnote references to the sources that you used. Your goal is to provide facts from the author’s life which then allow you to discuss the author’s bias. After the biographical information, examine how the author’s life created their bias, or viewpoint. Discuss the bias in detail. Be creative in your analysis. You might include things like: How does their biography influence how they view the world? What is the author’s association with the subject? Why did they write the primary source? Who was the audience? For example, Christopher Columbus, a white, male, Christian, European explorer viewed the Native Americans he met as without civilization and without religion because his background meant that he believed Europeans were more civilized and religion had to be formal like Christianity. He wrote his diary for the King and Queen of Spain and for history to portray himself positively. Historical context.
