rite a polished, formal essay of 4-6 pages addressing the following prompt. Your goal is analysis and synthesis. Specific examples are vital. NO SUMMARY. Be sure to follow the Standard Writing Guidelines.
Thinking about the assigned fiction and nonfiction, the films and articles, the guest speakers, and the images this semester (through Week 11), what are the overarching hopes and fears depicted by and about women and other gender minorities?
Your paper must have MLA-style citations throughout to earn credit. These citations will show where you synthesize ideas. Only use course materials. Any use of outside materials will result in a failing grade, as will any paper without citations.
An example of a “hope” might be something like the value of being heard. You are welcome to use this point (and support it with several examples), but it’s not required by any means. Your essay needs two hopes and two fears. Your paper must demonstrate synthesis from both the Reader and from other course materials.
This essay is not about your hopes and fears. This essay is also not a reflection. No personal experience! This is a formal, academic writing exercise.
In addition, to what the Standard Writing Guidelines outline, please do not use subtitles.

Introduction (roughly 5% of paper)

Using Grammarly, Word’s “rewrite suggestions,” ChatGPT, Bard, Claude, Quill, and/or any other tool is considered cheating. ONLY use your own words and your own ideas. ONLY use a basic spell/grammar checker that catches typos.
The paper will be graded holistically. The rubric provided below is only designed to give you some additional insights into what to aim for and to receive feedback from me. The general course rubric included in the document “Notes of Grades” is what will specifically guide my grading while scoring your essays.
Take note that a requirement of 4-6 pages means your paper should be at least four full pages with a line or two going onto a fifth page. Papers should be no longer than six full pages.
