For all discussions you are expected to post ONE initial response to the discussion questions described below and AT LEAST ONE follow-up to one of your group member’s posts. You can and are encouraged to post more than this requirement since we are hoping to create a dialog. As I mentioned earlier, our collective experiences are one of the areas we as a group need to mine…as in gold mine! For more details with respect to the expectations in the posts, please review the syllabus and the scoring rubric, and reach out to your instructor.
1. Having spent some time on enhancing our emotional intelligence and self-awareness, we would be remiss not to acknowledge that sometimes a person is just not a good fit for a position. As a leader, you will certainly be called upon, or have been called upon to determine that. However, in professional settings, the resources that ‘enable’ a position may not be established in such a way that the employee is set up for success. One of those incredibly important resources is leadership! There are two components to the discussion this week. The first, have you or someone you know experienced being an unhappy middle manager and if so, were/are there any factors in the article “Why Middle Managers are so Unhappy” that contributed to the dissatisfaction? If so, please share. Second, as a leader, what should you take away from this article with respect to how you manage/lead?
2. There is an interesting trade off between staying with a position and perhaps a calling, and seeking other opportunities. Often, we have been reminded of or have had scripture revealed to us that encourages us in the situation that we are in. Share your experience and the scripture. It serves us all well to be able to share how the Lord is working in our lives.
