Write an organization outline of your entire paper using the examples on the Creating an Outline page. This step will require looking closely at the Final Paper instructions and pages – be sure to think through and fill in the sample outlines, adding bullets or lines as needed. These lines or bullets don’t have to be in full sentences, but it should be clear to your instructor what your stories are (if you’re writing the Music option), what theories you’re using (for either option) and the points you’ll be making. You’re free to make changes later, but completing this step will help you see where you need to make those changes. The more detailed your outline, the more feedback and guidance your instructor will be able to provide to make sure you’re on the right track. 2. Write at least four paragraphs (your introductory paragraph and three more) of the Final Paper option you’ve chosen. You can either: • discuss your IAT results from Lesson 8, how accurate you think they are, and identify the theory or area (Biology of Behavior OR Learning) you’ll use to explain them, as well as write a couple paragraphs about cognitive dissonance criteria/lack thereof and strategies to reduce dissonance (check the Sample Outline on the Creating an Outline page), Task: Your IAT Results and Cognitive Dissonance Purpose: Use your experience taking the IAT to explore and describe the causes of cognitive dissonance, strategies to reduce that dissonance, and theoretical explanations that may explain your results. This essay will build your terminology and understanding of concepts we have used throughout the course. Writing Tasks (see the Your Final Research and Reflection Essay: More about the IAT Option – you must read this page to complete the assignment): 1. Introductory paragraph in which you discuss your IAT results and identify the theory/area you will use to explain them. 2. Identify which strategy/technique(s) you used to reduce any dissonance you experienced. Discuss how you used that technique and how successful it was. If you didn’t experience any dissonance, explain which of the criteria for dissonance were not met. 3. Use either the a) Biology of Behavior or b) Learning perspectives outlined on the Your Final Research and Reflection Essay: More about the IAT Option page to explain your results from the IAT. 4. Discuss 1-2 things you’ve learned about yourself and how this self-awareness might influence your thinking and behavior. 5. Create a strategy for unlearning bias using one of the learning theories mentioned on the Your Final Research and Reflection Essay: More about the IAT Option page.
