Introduction: On cold, clear days, rubbing almost any object seems to cause it to be attracted or repelled from other objects. Balloons can stick to a wall, combs can pick up bits of paper after being used, and clothes can stick to people after movement. These forces result from the objects becoming electrically charged. In today’s lab you explore how objects become charged and how the resulting forces depend on the distance between the charged objects. Goals: Experimentally verify the interactions between charged and uncharged objects. Quantitatively explore the dependence of the electric force on distance.
