Write a paper discussing the hallmark of American anthropological fieldwork known as participant observation. This is the main technique that ethnographers use to conduct their fieldwork. Through participant observation, anthropologists become involved in people’s daily lives, observe and ask questions about what they are doing, and record those observations. Being involved in people’s lives for a long period of time is critical to the method, generating insights we would not have if anthropologists chose to simply interview a few select community members, visit for a few hours one day, or administer a short survey instead. Answer the following questions in this week’s discussion:Globalization is quickly transforming the way all societies interact with one another and there are very few cultures left untouched by modernization. Take a couple of minutes to look up some of the remaining isolated hunter-gatherer, horticulturalist, or pastoralist tribes or societies that exist in the modern world today. If you were an ethnographer, which society would you be most intrigued to study and why?Consider the types of culture shock that ethnographers endure when conducting fieldwork. What are some examples and which factors would you personally find to be most challenging?
