There are positive and negative trends currently in adolescent behavior. Overall violent crimes in the past 50 years have decreased, but adolescent crime increased, reaching an all time high in the 1990’s but trending downward since then. In addition, while still higher than other countries, teen pregnancies births have decreased. Adolescents have become increasingly involved in what historically have been considered “adult” activities, including violent crime, sexual activity, and substance use. These trends have forced lawmakers to determine, with increasing frequency, whether or not adolescents who engage in these activities should be treated, sometimes even more harshly than actual adults. The developmental data has shifted. Based on the course lecture and the documentary, please answer the following as briefly as possible: 1.
