Instructions Quality Improvement Literature Review Emergency medical services (EMS), as the younger health profession, has struggled to embrace a research-focused approach to evidence-based medicine. Most of the research is performed in a retrospective review of existing patient care encounters. This limits how much the variables can be mitigated and may limit what information can be included. A literature review becomes a great starting point to allow the EMS researcher to identify what has been done either in the EMS environment specifically or in a related area of allied health where results may be extrapolated and applied. Conduct a literature review of the existing quality improvement methods or approaches used for health care and/or public safety. Your analysis of this subject should address the following key areas: ways in which the types of quality improvement programs are represented in the literature (applicable to all fields or limited to specific ones), characteristics of quality improvement programs, and how to apply findings in your organization or an organization you hope to work for in the future. Your literature review must be at least two pages in length. The attached literature review example from the Success Center has some great tips if you are not familiar with writing a literature review. While the example shows a title page, keep in mind that you do not need a title page for this assignment. You should include at least four academically credible or peer-reviewed sources for references, one of which should be from the CSU Online Library. An academically credible source for this topic would be an industry-related website or an article in a peer-reviewed or industry specific journal.
