The mechanism that permits the penis to become erect usually starts from the brain after being triggered by stimulation. The stimulation comes from something that the male individual felt, saw, thought, or even heard, that made the nerves send chemical messages to various blood contained in the penis. In addition to this, “the stimulation and nerve’s chemical message makes the arteries relax and open up, therefore allowing more inward flow of blood; while the veins close up at the same time to disallow the outward of blood” (Anderson, 2019). This explains how the increase of blood in the penis without flowing out, traps pressure within the corpora cavernosa, thus expanding the penis. The penis only becomes soft when the blood inflow stops and the veins allow blood out of it.

Hi professor and class,
Many factors go into making the penis become erect but it usually starts with the nervous system. First, the brain senses stimulation which triggers the first step. Once the penis is aroused the smooth muscles will relax causing a rush of blood. The rush of blood comes from the arteries while this is happening the veins close up. Once blood is in the penis it is trapped in the corpora cavernosa by a build up of pressure. The penis will then expand to hold the amount of pressure.
